UNITA Communique Notes Angolan, Cuban Casualties LDO72223 Lisbon Domestic Service in Portuguese 2100 GMT Apr 85 Text The latest communique issued by the UNITA General Headquarters says that in the last days of March UNITA forces captured the localities of Cassongue, Santa Maria and Vouga in the Angolan provinces of Cuanza sul, Malange and Bie.
The communique says that the MPLA troops suffered 156 casualties, Cuban was killed and captured. Various war equipment was captured, particularly personal firearms and amunition.
The Angolan defense minister is accompanied by a high ranking Armed Forces delegation which includes Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Magalhaes Paiva Vunda, the national political director of the People Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola.
UNITA says it suffered eight casualties.

The visit by the Angolan party delegation to Cuba is within the framework of the exchange programs existing with the Cuban Communist Party Department for Foreign Relations. Included in the delegation are the heads of the American and African divisions, as well as officials from the Department of Cadres and the Foreign Relations Secretariat. Text Two South African soldiers have apparently been captured by the Mozambican authorities. Reports say that one of the men is a lieutenant, and that they were both operating with the Mozambique National Resistence Movement.
But the South African Defense Force has denied that any of its personnel are either operating, or were captured, in Mozambique. Diplomatic sources in Maputo say it is possible the men will be kept as bargaining power for any future talks between the countries.
